I’ll never forget the moment when a Stinger’s sharp teeth snapped just inches from my face, its spiky body blurring as it flew towards me. That was in the rocky desert-like area outside Bleak Falls – a location I thought would be a cakewalk, but proved to be one of the most intense battles I’ve had so far.
Combat in Stellar Blade is where this game truly shines. The fluid controls allow for seamless switching between blades, and the sheer variety of abilities on offer means you’ll never be stuck in a single playstyle for long. I found myself experimenting with different combos against the Stinger – it’s not easy to take down these creatures, but when you do, it feels incredible.
But what really makes Stellar Blade stand out is its procedural generation system. Every environment I’ve visited so far has been unique, from the hazy orange skies of the desert to the dimly lit, damp caves that seem to stretch on forever. And with a constant flow of new quests and side missions, there’s always something new to discover.
Now, I know some critics have noted that the game’s pacing can be uneven at times – I agree. There are areas where you’ll feel like you’re stuck doing repetitive fetch quests, but these moments are few and far between. What’s more, the difficulty spikes can be frustrating for less experienced players, so if you’re new to the genre or don’t have a lot of time to spare, Stellar Blade might not be the best fit.
But if you do decide to take on the challenge, I think you’ll find that Stellar Blade is worth it. The game’s sheer depth and variety make it a joy to play – and at $59.99, it’s not an exorbitant price considering what you get in return.
I’d recommend Stellar Blade to fans of sci-fi RPGs who are looking for something with complex gameplay mechanics and extensive customization options. If you’re new to the genre or prefer more casual experiences, you might find yourself struggling to progress through the game’s increasingly challenging content – but if you’re up for the challenge, I think you’ll be rewarded.
